I may have this problem more than I should. I just have a problem with pronounciation. In grade six mum totally shut me down with laughter when I pronounced ‘figuratively’ like ‘fig-yure-ate-iv-lee’ because I’d only heard it for the first time recently in A Series of Unfortunate Events and my brain just always takes the phonetic option.
I never had this problem, but I know some people who have, and I find it really weird before. I always thought, “why on earth would they even mispronounce words that they frequently see in the book; they should already know that.” I once corrected a friend who kept on saying Seemoos instead of Shey-mus for Seamus (Finnigan). But, yeah, I understand now.
